Old Town Hall (German:. Altstädtisches Rathaus) - historic town hall at the end of the sixteenth century in Gdańsk's Old Town, located between the mill and the church of St. pokarmelickim. Joseph. One of the most valuable monuments of Gdansk. 

History 

The first town hall in the old town, Gothic built by the Teutonic Knights in 1382. In place of the existing building were previously two halls of half-timbered construction. In the second half of the sixteenth century, the building has already threatened to collapse, so they started to climb new. 

The present town hall was erected in the years 1587-1589 (finishing work was completed in 1595) in the Netherlands style (although hits a certain restraint in the expression): contrast brick facade with wrought stone architectural details, large windows with a dense grid of internal divisions, the contrast of raw , cubic body of the building with turrets at the corners, which somehow predict high and richly articulated helmet main tower. Town Hall by Antoni van Obberghen, the creator of the stone portal of the main entrance is considered to Willem van der Meer. The building was built on an irregular square with sides 24 m 22 m, with a two-storey basement.
